Dental Sedation

Intravenous (IV) sedation in dentistry has become very popular because of the benefits it has for both the patient and the dentist. For some patients, the use of sedation is actually the only way that they can get the dental care they need and improve their dental health because of the level of anxiety they suffer when having dental treatment. IV sedation is delivered by injection, ether in the back of the patients hand or in their arm. The dose required will depend on the length of treatment.
The Benefits of IV sedation:

  • Patient relaxation
  • Increased comfort
  • Movement control
  • Patient co-operation
  • Control of gag reflex
  • Little or no memory of treatment
  • Fewer appointments are needed
